Our Facilities

Renwick School is a well-resourced, modern learning environment. Our grounds and buildings have been thoughtfully developed over recent years — with plenty of student input along the way.

School Hours

Our school day begins at 8.50 am. Students are welcome on-site from 8.10 am, and school finishes at 2.55 pm.

Classrooms

Renwick School has 25 classrooms, including four purpose-built junior classrooms completed in 2010 and three reception classrooms added in 2013. All spaces are either newly built or fully refurbished to modern learning environment standards — five classrooms underwent this process in 2023.

Classrooms are bright, well-equipped spaces with students’ work proudly on display. The exterior of our buildings has also had a fresh look, with colour and texture chosen by our students themselves.

Library

Whāia te mātaurangi hei oranga mō koutou Seek after learning for the sake of your wellbeing

Our library is a vibrant 21st-century learning space — not just a place to borrow books, but somewhere students create, collaborate, problem-solve and develop a genuine love of literacy.

In recent years we’ve worked hard to make the library more junior-friendly and to broaden access to non-fiction and other genres. All classes visit weekly, and a dedicated team of senior students helps keep things running smoothly every day.

Parents and pre-schoolers are welcome to come in and explore. Our library website provides 24/7 access to the catalogue and current news.

Playgrounds & Fields

Our grounds include a large playing field, two turfed tennis and netball court areas, and two adventure playgrounds. The newer playground, opened in 2022 and designed by students for Years 3–8, sits alongside a separate junior playground and a purpose-built sandpit — both shaped by student ideas.

In 2024 we opened a scooter track for use during the school day. Helmets are required.

Sports Facilities

Renwick School is fortunate to have access to the fields at the Renwick Sports and Events Centre, within easy walking distance of the school. These grounds host our cross-country event and a range of other activities throughout the year. Our School Athletics Day is held at Athletic Park in Blenheim.

EnviroSchool

Renwick School holds Green Gold EnviroSchools status — recognition of the genuine commitment our students, staff, board and whānau have made to caring for our environment. We’re working towards Beyond Green Gold.

Our grounds and programmes include a wide range of sustainability initiatives:

  • Creek redevelopment — an ongoing project to restore plantings, stream life and birdlife to our on-site creek
  • Solar power — 104 panels across the senior and junior blocks, generating 26kW of power
  • Edible gardens — students learn to grow, tend and cook with produce from the garden; Years 4–6 participate in the Garden to Table programme
  • Waste reduction — a rubbish-free policy, the Paper4Trees recycling programme, and class-based monitoring of water, power and consumable use
  • Biodiversity — worm farms, bug hotels, native plantings and gardens supported by classroom programmes
  • Community connections — Trees4Survival, the Big Renwick Clean Up, and the Big Switch Off Fortnight

Our school marae investigations and visits happen biannually, with visual motifs throughout the school reflecting our place and culture.

Using the School Grounds After Hours

The school grounds are available for approved activities after 4.00pm on school days, provided they are not in use by school groups. We ask that visitors keep clear of the buildings, respect the facilities, and report any damage.
